WEDNESDAY JOURNAL

WEDNESDAY, JULY 26, 2024

July is nearly gone. Planet Earth is mostly the same as I left it yesterday. Nothing I did seems to have changed it much for better or for worse.

Today is Wednesday. I had been due for a physical therapy session Monday, but had to call the hospital and postpone it for a bit.

Monday, the day I was supposed to go, I was advised, at the last minute, that I had no insurance to pay for it.

Now here is the thing. My insurance is provided through a huge company, a conglomerate of people, skilled at and paid to give that company’s insured good service when they ever need it, and, in exchange, the insured peeps pay regularly to the insurance company what collectively adds up to a lot of bucks.

Somebody, somewhere was not paying attention and made a typo. And since there is a built-in redundancy, somebody, somewhere checked their work and still missed it.

It almost gave me another stroke when I found out I was suddenly uninsured. It gave P.T. an empty time slot. I’m sure It made the entire hospitals’ butt tighten up a little, since my medical charges were at a fairly large total by then.

Anyway, it’s straightened out mow, I think.

The low-hanging fruit and easy lesson for us to learn here is to pay attention to what your are doing, edit well, and, for goodness’ sake CHECK YOUR WORK!

But that may not be the only lesson. The fact is, even if you don’t love your job, or whatever you have decided to undertake, don’t be like so many, and feel you have no accountability in it, that someone else will correct your problems somewhere down the line, so its OK to be tentative about what you do. That culture is destroying our efficiency and creativity.

This time, for me, it all worked out OK, but it could have also broken badly. This lack of concentration could also end badly for you, your book, your article or your college grades.

It’s not an easy perspective to cultivate, but when you start to pay attention to what you do, you will be rewarded.

thanks for reading!
